What Yoga Taught Me About Healing: Lessons from My 200-Hour YTT Journey
When I began my yoga journey in early 2022, I wasn’t chasing flexibility or a new fitness goal. I was searching for wholeness. My father had recently passed, I’d quit smoking, and I was coming back from a deep depression that left me feeling unrecognizable in my own body. I was ready to rebuild—not just physically, but mentally and spiritually.
Yoga became the path that brought all of me back together.
At first, my practice was purely physical. I wanted to move again, to feel my body come alive after years of stillness. But within six months, pain began surfacing in my core. Eventually, I discovered I had developed Diastasis Recti, a condition most common in postpartum women and rarely seen in men. It stopped me in my tracks—but it also gave me purpose.
Healing became my teacher.
Union: The Heart of Yoga
When I found Yogamu, I was drawn to their teaching that “Yoga means Union.” The Sanskrit word yuj—to yoke or join together—spoke deeply to me. It reminded me that strength comes from integration: body, mind, and spirit moving as one.
That idea reshaped everything. Through the study of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, I learned that every imbalance—physical, emotional, or energetic—is an opportunity for alignment. The Yamas and Niyamas taught me tolerance for myself and others. Asana and Pranayama rebuilt the physical structure that had once failed me. Through Pratyahara, I began to quiet the senses and listen inward. In Dharana and Dhyana, I touched fleeting moments of stillness. And as for Samadhi—that final limb of union—it’s a journey I’ll continue walking for the rest of my life.
“Balance is the true key to all power. Every imbalance creates a place of weakness, and through that weakness, we’re invited to grow.”
Beyond the Pose
One of the greatest revelations from Yogamu was realizing how much yoga exists outside of asana. Western yoga often focuses on the physical postures, but real yoga extends far beyond the mat. It’s how we breathe, how we think, how we treat others, and how we return to ourselves.
This deeper understanding has transformed not just my own life, but how I now guide others. I bring yogic breathwork to clients who struggle to reconnect with their bodies—helping them release fascial tension, activate the diaphragm, and restore the pelvic floor. Elements of yoga flow naturally into my Morning Activation class, weaving mindfulness and movement together in every breath.
The Journey Continues
Completing my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Yogamu marks both an ending and a beginning. It’s a milestone that represents healing, discipline, and the power of consistency—but also a doorway into deeper study. I’m continuing my education toward my 300-hour certification and eventually the 1600-hour Yoga Master path.
Yoga has given me more than a certificate; it has given me a framework for living.
It’s taught me that healing isn’t about perfection—it’s about awareness. It’s about yoking together every part of who we are, even the pieces we once hid from, and finding peace in the union.
“We don’t find balance by holding still; we find it by learning how to move with grace through change.”
Follow the Journey
This milestone isn’t the destination—it’s one step on an endless path. I’ll soon be offering live classes both online and in person for those who want to experience yoga as I’ve come to understand it: as a journey of healing, connection, and self-discovery.
Because yoga isn’t about escaping life—it’s about learning to be fully present within it.
